Void Filling

Mountain Grout Strong

There are many reasons to choose Mountain Grout products for void filling. The high strength to weight ratio is high on the list. Mountain Grout products that offer expansion rates of over 100 times are available.

More typically, products that expand 20 to 30 times their initial volume are chosen. The first consideration in choosing the best product is the purpose of the void filling. If high strength is needed, Mountain Grout U 4.0 will provide compressive strength of 90 PSI. If lower strength is acceptable, Mountain Grout VF could be the best product.

These are both dual-component products that are typically installed with positive displacement, dual-component metering pumps. If the voids are shallow (less than four inches), a single-component product such as Mountain Grout Flexible maybe appropriate where a simple one stream pump can be used. In some cases a special installation technique may be required.

Filling abandoned pipes or filling the annular space between two pipes are good examples. In some instances, holes can be drilled through the pipe to allow injection of the product. With buried pipe it is sometimes necessary to use a tube withdrawal technique. In this case a tube, pipe, or hose is extended into the lengthy cavity and the grout is injected as the tube is being withdrawn.

The expanding foam front follows the end of the withdrawing tube assuring complete fill of the cavity.

Sometimes the cavities have limited accessibility and the high expansion rate makes it much easier to get the needed quantity of product in a location for placement. The equipment can be fairly light weight and can easily be moved into tight spaces.
